Care Kashmir

Care Kashmir Project

About Care Kashmir

Care Kashmir was founded in 2007 with the main aim to help empower people in India who experience the effects of leprosy, polio and other childhood illnesses. While Care Kashmir works hard to upskill their artisan's craft abilities, they also pay their artisans fairly so each artisan can financially support themselves and their families.

When you purchase a product made by Care Kashmir through Uplift Fair Trade, you are helping those who experience the effects of  leprosy, polio and other childhood illnesses improve their craft skills, and earn a fair, wage.

An insight into how they make their lovely products...

Care Kashmir uses papier-mâché and leather work using crewel and Aari embroidery. The artisans use their creativity and natural surroundings as inspiration for the design of the products they make. They then embroider and decorate the products they are making.

All the papier-mâché products are made from paper paste set into moulds, dried and then smoothed for painting by hand using fine brushes and safe paints.

Popular products Care Kasmir are well known for specialising/making include: boxes, trays, Christmas decorations and suede leather bags.
